Adhesive capsulitis, also known as frozen shoulder, is commonly seen in women between the ages of 40 and 50. When suffering from frozen shoulder, the shoulder joint capsule tissue will become thickened and adhered, making the joint and surrounding muscles stiff and difficult to move, just like getting frozen, causing chronic pain, range of motion reduction and thus making it difficult to complete some activities of daily life.

Cause

The actual cause and mechanism are unknown

May be induced by trauma or strain

High-Risk Individuals

  1. Female

  2. Around 50 years old

  3. Diabetic patients

  4. Patients with thyroid problems

  5. People who have suffered shoulder injuries

Stages & Symptoms

Stage One: Gradual Freezing stage

Pain is the main symptom, in which is exacerbated when sleeping on your side and puts pressure on the affected shoulder, often affecting sleep quality. The range of motion begins to gradually decrease. The initial stage usually lasts about three to five months.

Stage 2: Frozen stage

The pain sensation decreases, but the shoulder becomes increasingly stiff and the range of motion decreases significantly, making activities difficult and affecting daily life. This condition can last from four to twelve months.

Phase Three: Thawing stage

The thawing period can last for about 6 months to more than a year. At this time, the patient's pain and shoulder joint stiffness will gradually ease. At this time, the patient can speed up the improvement of joint amplitude with appropriate treatment and exercise, and generally, the shoulder joint can be restored. activity function.

Treatments

  • Acupuncture: Relaxes deep rotator cuff muscles

  • Sports therapy: increase range of motion

  • Manual therapy: relieves joint stiffness

  • Focused Shockwave: reduce adhesions

  • Electromagnetic field therapy: induces muscle activation

  • Ultrasound: reduce inflammatory

Possible consequences of not treating early

  • Slow down recovery progress

  • Unable to restore original activity range
